Knits for Palestine

I will soon be uploading new knits that will be sold to raise money for Palestine. This will be done in a raffle style: every £5 donated to the linked Crowdfunder will act as 1 go in the raffle. Check Instagram for updates. The Crowdfunder will be posted both here and on Instagram.

Kilts

Custody Great Kilt: Inspired by the Highland Great Kilt and the oppression suffered by Gaels in post-Jacobite Scotland, I cut-up my used jail clothes and re-sewed them into a 10 meter long piece of fabric. I got the jail clothes as a result of spending my early 20's in and out of police custody for protesting. Although not intentional, the project helped me to process the emotions I have around of my experience during these years and the interactions I had with the police and the court system.

Keffiyeh Kilt: Combining both Scottish and Palestinian culture, it draws on similarities of both the Keffiyeh and the Kilt in terms of their symbolism of resistance, as well as the kilts historic criminalisation with the current criminalisation of the keffiyeh. The piece also reminds me of punks in the 1970's who incorporated tartan into their clothing as anti-establishment and anti-British symbols, because of their respect for its history in rebellion. Likewise, today the keffiyeh is used as a symbol of resistance all across the world.
